What the Business Model Canvas is
The Business Model Canvas is Alexander Osterwalder's one-page description of how a business creates, delivers and captures value: nine blocks covering who you serve, what you offer them, how it reaches them, what it costs and what it earns. It replaces the thirty-page plan nobody reads with one sheet a team can argue over.
This template is the real thing, editable in the page. Nothing is stored on a server — your canvas lives in this browser until you download it.
The nine blocks, and the question each one answers
Key Partners

What key activities does your value proposition require?Key Resources
What key resources does your value proposition require?Value Propositions
What value do you deliver, and which customer problem do you solve?Customer Relationships
What relationship does each customer segment expect you to keep?Channels
Through which channels do your customer segments want to be reached?Customer Segments
Who are your most important customers?Cost Structure
What are the most important costs in your business model?Revenue Streams
What are customers really willing to pay for, and how?How to fill in the template
- 1
Start with the customer
Name one segment before anything else. Every other block is an answer to who that is. - 2
Write the value proposition
State the job you do for that segment, in their words, not your feature list. - 3
Work outward
Channels and Relationships on the right, Partners, Activities and Resources on the left. - 4
Check the numbers, then export
Cost Structure and Revenue Streams last: they test whether the rest holds together.

Questions about this template
Yes. No account, no email, no paywall, and no watermark on any export. Every format downloads in one click.
Yes. The Word file is a real 5x2 table with your notes as text in the cells, and the PowerPoint file is one slide of nine editable shapes — not a picture of a canvas.
In this browser, and nowhere else. There is no account and no server-side copy, so clearing site data clears the canvas. Download the JSON file under the download bar to move it to another browser.
